In the Beginning…
Dame and Matt have been friends for well over 15 years. From their early days at college, they formed a fast bond over three things; doing life together, following God, and playing video games. After finishing up their respective degrees and heading out on in the direction each felt God was calling them, it was imperative that they stay connected despite geographical distance, life circumstances, and poor internet connection. Thus Monday night gaming has decreed a staple to each of their calendars. Over the years this time has been spent tackling devastating bosses in epic raids, dealing with heavy life issues, delving into the darkest dungeons for the shiniest of loot, and sharing their walks with God together.
One late night back in 2015, while knee deep in a dungeon crawling game, the discussion turned to their ongoing conversation about life, God, and video games. “Wouldn’t it be great”, they discussed, “if others could experience this same type of thing”. Several hours and at least four level ups later, the very basic foundation of Roll the Level was born. Inspired by Paul’s work in Athens (see Acts 17:16-34), Dame and Matt set out on a journey to ask how they could take a part of a culture they loved, namely video games, and redeem it for the glory of God.
Looking for Group…
After three years of sporadic podcasting, talking, and praying it was clear that, although Dame and Matt had the passion, dedication and desire to see Roll the Level expand, they needed help. So after many more hours of asking God to bring the right people God summoned Sara to the group. With a passion for video games and on a quest of her own to discover and explore who God is and what He has done, Sara brought new life, perspective, and focus. So in 2018, this ragtag co-op adventure of two because of a group set on seeing where God would take this ministry.
Just leaving the starting zone…
With several seasons of the podcast under their collective belts, a weekly news show, and a desire to follow God’s leading, the team at Roll the Level is just getting started. We are continuing our conversation about life, God and video games and invite you to join us. We honestly don’t know where the next step is or how God is going to use this ministry but at the end of the day, its God’s ministry and our job is to be obedient to His leading. So whether you’re a newbie or a grizzled ancient (like us) we want to help each other Roll the Level.
